This book started off so strong! It was hilarious! Seriously, she was killing me between laughter and sexual tension. However, once the couple got together, everything fell flat. The build up was 100 times better than the follow-thru. I like her writing, and I'll continue to try her books. I just was disappointed with the blandness of the last half. It was predictable and uneventful.

This actually a reread & I’m going with my original rating because the book stands up. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good drama. Some light humor, but they deal with some heavy subjects. Chelsea was Elec’s girlfriend in the first book. He left her rather abruptly to go to Greta(?). A year later, Chelsea is trying to move on asking the questions that are always asked, “Where did I go wrong?” “What did I do?” and “What’s wrong with me?” The answer girl, is nothing. Chelsea was a girl left stunned with no answers when Elec left her.
Her new neighbor is Damien. An artist with secrets (aren’t they all?). After an auspicious start, they slowly become friends & maybe more. So, if you want to spend some time with a beanie wearing artist, a girl in love, & 2 cuddly Rottweilers, this could be your next drama-filled read.

I am so glad we got Chelsea's story from Stepbrother, Dearest. Life after heartbreak does go on and we get to see Chelsea find her happy ending - and it comes in the form of her grumpy, brash neighbor/landlord, Damien. There is so much humor and heart. Penelope Ward's ability to write realistic & complex characters once again shines. This story is told entirely in Chelsea's POV (except for the epilogue), but with incredible dialogue, you start to understand Damien's POV. This is a friend-to-lovers story, with an undeniable connection between Damien & Chelsea from the jump. Damien is resistant to serious relationships for very personal reasons that start to be uncovered as Chelsea & he start to intertwine their lives. He wants her but doesn't allow himself to have her. For Chelsea, she didn't think after Elec she'd find love again but the connection she has with Damien feels different in ways she never could imagine. They both have real, honest conversations with one another - laying their feelings on the line. This story is funny, emotional and tugs at the heart in so many ways. You can't help but continue to cheer for their happy ending as they go through lots of highs and lows. This was a quick listen that I absolutely devoured.
