I had never read a Lovecraft story before, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. I listened to an audio version, and the narrator was incredible. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this book less had I read it rather than listened, however, overall, it's a fun tale.

Part of me wonders if i prefer the idea and vibes of this story rather than the actual read. I found part of it pretty tricky to read because of how Lovecraft wrote it. Theres also the mild lingering thought of how xenophobic it could be interpreted (i for one am deciding to just take it as a face value spooky story and hoping there wasnt an alternative deeper meaning).
I like Innsmouth and its residents but i have a problem regarding them and its that i cant understand one thing - in the book the jewellery that comes from Innsmouth is frequently talked about and descriped as if its unsettling and disturbing but i cant for the life of me imagine uncanny jewellery, i keep giving them elegant masterfully crafted jade tiaras in my head.
I wish the story was longer, the end wraps up rather quickly when they definitely could've stretched it out a bit more and either explained more or reflected on the protagonists feelings more.
I also heard this story is a 2 hour read??? it took me much longer, i must linger and visualise stories a lot more, no way im just bad at reading...
If you have spare time id recommend reading it or just listening to one of the audiobooks on youtube.
