4.0

Using clear language, Harris explains how the very foundation of our country, including the building of the White House, has been built upon slave labor. This also includes the buying and selling of people, predominantly Black, to work in white people's home and fields to fuel the economy. Harris goes on to explore how these things have affected today's systems including the racism and oppression that still oppress Black and Brown people now.
Historic photos, paintings, and drawings throughout. There are also discussion starter questions, text boxes, charts/graphs, 2-page spreads about issues like the confederate symbols today and the modern day right to vote, a timeline, essential facts, a glossary, a brief selected bibliography, a QR code and a link for more online resources, a list of 2 museums for further information, and source notes.
