I am confused. I read “The English Understand Wool” from the Storybook ND and I loved it. My understanding of the Storybook ND was its tagline “the pleasure of reading a great book from cover to cover in an afternoon”. The idea was for adults to recreate the feeling children have of reading a great kid’s book in an afternoon. “The English Understand Wool” did exactly that for me. “The Woman Who Killed the Fish” is something different. Four very short stories written for her children. The stories have a dark edge, but could also be read by children or to children. A bit like the original fairy tales. I have one other Storybook ND book (I bought three because they are tiny and outrageously beautiful) and I’m very curious about it now.
muitos não sentem a simplicidade do conto que a clarice traz para crianças mas a profundidade que ela mostra a cada passagem é lindo te amo clarice suas obras são um dos motivos de eu ter orgulho de ser brasileira

This is a very childish and for children book. While some children’s books may be enjoyable for adults, I did not find this one to be such for me. After the first story, which was painful enough, I did not feel the need to proceed.

"Underneath the soft feathers you can feel the tiny little bones of their ribs."
"As you can see, there's a little bit of everything in this world: women who beat dogs, other women who never beat them, a man who earns money killing roaches, a man who mixes some things up and invents a perfume."
"It was this: at night the fig tree's leaves would turn on as if the Sun were pouring down onto them."
"There are only two way to discover that the earth is round: either studying it in books, or being happy."

My first Lispector! Super excited to pick up more of her works.
Wonderful entry point to Clarice Lispector in the form of children’s stories. They were playful and delightful to read! Excited to read more Lispector and more of the Storybook ND collection.

Fun short stories. Kinda sad for a children's book
