I am not sure why, but I became a Colleen Coble fan late in her writing career. I had sporadically read some of her books, but didn't get into them that much. That has changed over the last few years, and I have become an avid reader of her books. In fact, I have gone back and read around 20 of her books in the last month, many that I had read before.
Her best series, in my opinion, is her Rock Harbor Series. The characters are impossible not to like, and everything about the series is just top notch. It has been several years since the series ended, so I was a bit dubious about another book in the series so long after the rest.... but I was wrong to be dubious. It probably helps that I just re-read the other books a few weeks ago, but this book seamlessly fell in with the rest..... and was a totally awesome 5-stars read.
The suspense and drama was great in the book, but there was a message throughout the book that Coble got across, of true beauty being what is inside. The hero of the story, Boone, is a man who got one side of his face scarred in a fire. As a result, his fiancee left him. He thinks no woman could ever love him, yet the heroine of the story is attracted to him largely in part because of who he is inside. The message is there that we work too hard to impress people with what they see of us outwardly, and too often don't work on our character and everything else inside enough. On the flip side, the bad guy in the story had perfect looks, but was an evil killer.
This paragraph sums up the theme and message of the book:
"Scars and all, his face was so handsome, so beloved. Her experience had taught her of how the soul was the repository of beauty. Unlike the Phantom (of the opera) who was as ugly on the inside as he was on the outside, Boone's scars hid an astoundingly beautiful soul. She had spent too much of her life worrying about the face she presented to the world, and much too little time on the character she needed to be developing every day."
Thanks, Colleen for writing not just a great suspense novel that was hard to put down, but also for including this great and needful message.

Great, suspenseful return to Rock Harbor from Coble!
Given the amount of time between this novel and others in the series, Coble builds in enough character development of all the characters so the reader can easily remember old friends or be introduced to them for the first time.
The novel itself has a great plot--I did figure out who one of the antagonists was about halfway through. But highly enjoyed watching those in the book figure it out!
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley.

SO good!! I loved revisiting Rock Harbor and quite a few familiar characters. I was kept guessing until the end, which is just how I like it!
If you are looking for a suspenseful, heart-pounding, non-stop action mystery have you read this book yet?? If you have not, I highly recommend you give it a try. This story hooked me in with its talons at the very first sentence and kept its hooks in me until the very end. It was one of those stories I just could not look away. Very well done, Ms. Coble!
Dana Newell has suffered far too long at the hands, and words, of her abusive fiance. Finally she has stood up for herself and has returned to Rock Harbor, her home town. With her, however, comes danger and the threat of her own life. A budding serial killer is on the loose and Rock Harbor is hiding secrets that could become fatal. With death around every corner, is there any hope for escape?
*I received this book free from Thomas Nelson and The Fiction Guild in exchange for my honest review. What I have expressed are entirely my own thoughts and I was not compensated in any way*

This was a fast paced, finished in a day great book. The mystery in this combined with the familiarity of the rock harbour family made it perfect!
Colleen Coble's books are a hit or miss for me. Beneath Copper Falls goes into the miss category for me. I just didn't feel this story and really didn't connect with any of the characters. In fact, I felt like something was missing throughout the entire story.
This story was a bit puzzling to me. It was confusing from the very beginning. It seemed like there were just too many characters and trying to keep all the names and people straight just about got my head to spinning. The suspense just wasn't there either. Usually when I read one of Ms. Coble's books I am closing the curtains and curling into the couch cushion as much as I can. Not with this book though. The "bad guy" didn't come across as mysterious or evil but just a jerk. And no, I didn't figure out who the bad guy was. So kudos to the author for that bit of shock value.
Often when I read this author's work I am frantically turning pages but not this time. The story didn't seem to flow as well as previous books of hers. I often found myself thinking I had skipped a page or missed something and I found this to be frustrating after awhile.
As for the characters, well....there wasn't one I really, really liked. They were ok but nobody was memorable and I had a hard time feeling anything for them. The romantic element in the story didn't appeal to me either. It seemed rushed and almost added to the story because someone felt it needed to be there.
Even though I didn't enjoy this story fans of Coble will perhaps find they like this book. For me though it just wasn't my cup of tea.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and wasn't required to write a review. All opinions are mine.

Colleen Coble never seems to disappoint. I loved every book in the Rock Harbor series, and have enjoyed the adventure of Bree, her dog Sampson and the many townsfolk they meet along the way. This was I think the only book in the series that I wasn't really fooled, and was able to figure what was going on way before she revealed the solution. But most of her books I definetely couldn't figure it out.

The sixth book in a series, but my first read of the series, so if I spoil anything below from previous books I will have no clue! So sorry in advance if I do so! Let me just spoil my review by saying after reading the sixth book, I plan on starting at book one and getting into this series!
A who dun it from a known Christian fiction author that kept me on the edge of my beach chair (was on vacation while reading) and was so good that I may have skipped a few things just to finish! I rated it below that you can't read two in a row even after it being so good because I needed a breather after it, but after that breather I would pick up another one from this series real fast!
