This girl get my dream house dropped in her lap and acts like it's a CHORE. But for real, I love when you can tell an author loves *insert topic of study here* and gets to share all their knowledge through their writing. Especially if it can intertwine with the story as well as this. Sometimes it's kinda sad when someone has this insane journey and can't tell anyone cause they'd sound completely insane, even though they saved the day! Love the ghost(?) dog.

This book follows the traditional past/present formula. We follow the character in the present while see what happened in the past.
The main problem I have with this book is that the part that happens in the past seem unecesaary. There is nothing we learn from the past that enriches the plot that we didn't find in the historical records. In addition, the past is unsurprisingly painful. I could do without going back to the past and just staying in the present learning about the past from historical records.
The way the author wrote the New England accents phonetically really bothered me, especially when we were in the 17th century. It was hard to understand, and made the reading less enjoyable than it could be.
I liked to see a PhD student facing the troubles of grad school, it made me think of my own PhD and dissertation research.
