I really enjoyed this book. It was a great read for the autumnal season even though the book itself took place in the summertime. My biggest qualm with the book was how dumb/in denial the main character needed to be for the sake of the plot. There were questions that a research fellow studying colonial history would be expected to ask/ or know the answers to. It did not take away from my enjoyment of the book overall but it was a bit frustrating.

because how exactly do you forget your name??! Why does the reader pick up on that pattern 200 pages before our main character??

a four-year-old child is kept imprisoned and chained. The child was released after about 8 months but the women she was imprisoned with were all hanged.
