This was the first book of the series I have ever read, but I wasn't the slightest bit confused. I am going to be going back and reading the first two because I enjoyed this one a lot. Mace is a cop and human, but he is no stranger to the shifter world. But it is a little surprising to him that the shoplifter he arrests says that he is his mate. Roan is an omega and was born to be sold as a slave. Meeting Mace and his friends throw everything he believes out of control. He now has a mate and friends, instead of a Master.
It was a little insta-love, but I love mating and OFY, so this was perfect! Throw in the little murder mystery in the background and it was a great book! Hot, sweet, romantic, it had it all.

Someone could easily wonder why did I read this book knowing I dnf'ed the first book last year and skipped book 2 (which is a menage book and it's not my thing). Why? Because sometimes I want a simple plot with my favourite tropes turned on 11. Lisa Oliver's books are that kind of books for me because I never go for her books expecting an amazing plot and et cetera. No, I go for them for the romance, the shifters, the insta-love, the Fated Mates, the sex scenes. And this book delivered that!
There are better gay shifter romance or gay paranormal books in general out there (i.e. The Demon's in the Details by Meghan Maslow, the Soulbound series by Hailey Turner) but I guess you could say most of Lisa Oliver's books are my guilty pleasure reads.

I always enjoy Lisa Oliver's stories - easily read books that allow one to forget the day and dwell in a fantasy world for a while. This one passed all too quickly and set the scene for the next in the series.
In this book, Mace (human) is attracted to a young shifter but even though he has shifter friends, he doesn't see himself with one as a partner - especially a twink!! But hormones take charge and Mace and Roan become an item or would if Mace didn't keep putting his foot in it. While hiding from the world and Mace who doesn't seem to want him, Roan sees a serial murderer that Mace and his fellow cops are hunting. Unfortunately Roan is in shifter form at the time - did he see, smell and hear enough to help?

Mace was deliberately careless and quite hurtful to Roan to where I lost patience and sympathy for him. He took advantage of Roan's omega and conditioned submissiveness just one too many times. Along with his inability to sympathize, Mace wasn't able to relate emotionally to Roan. The story was very unromantic. Mace just never got his shit together for their relationship to develop.
This was a really bad gay for you story with a weak mating pull. The sexual chemistry was low between Mace and Roan. Roan was a really hot little number and even attracted attention in public. But Mace wasn't that sexually attracted to Roan and was still ogling boobs on other women. The sex was really boring and featured Mace penetrating Roan without much foreplay. Even with that, Mace didn't seem attracted to Roan's twinkie butt either. He wasn't an ass man even with women.
