I appreciate the way that the structure of the poems mimics the drumbeat rhythm of a funeral march, contributing to the idea that this is an elegy, and there were some good moments. The problem was that I felt like the poems were being forced into this structure, and that the use of short lines didn’t suit the actual poetry, which led to many of the poems feeling repetitive and stilted rather than fresh and thought/emotion provoking
