I have to love a story that takes place (albeit partially) in Montana.
The Book Burner is ramping up to be a wonderful villain. We learn a little bit more about the Page sisters.
An old face makes his presence known.
This one is good stuff!

Skimmed a lot of the first 3 issues since I'm not a huge fan of filler and I also think Bigby is about the most boring and annoying character in Fables and he's a large part of the reason why I dropped the main series. The second half of the volume came back to the present and was much better though. I like that we finally got a more in-depth look at all the Page sisters.

This is a set up book told by Miss Wall (the 4th Wall). In this you get a back story of a western where Bigby hunts down Jack and then the set up story where Bookburner arrives to fight Revise.
Meh. The main Fables storyline is so much better. Hard to care about a character as despicable as Jack.
I look forward to where the series is going but this was my least favorite collection so far. The book starts with a three-parter that steps away from the ongoing story and tells an interesting look into Jack's past in the wild wild west. While the story is good, its lacking in the normal sense of humor. Its also completely ill-timed. The book then concludes with the main story continuation as things come to a head with the Page Sisters, Mr. Revise, Jack, and Mr. Bookburner. This serves as a prequel to the big war coming next. The book overall just lacked focus and the humor was missing for half of it.
This may be my favorite so far in the Jack of Fables series, simply because the first half of the book features a visit from Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown (and only my favorite character from the Fables series). The Bigby/Jack showdown is terrific, although the second half of the volume lags a bit by comparison.
Definitely the weakest volume of this series yet, but still enjoyable.
The first half deals with Jack's life away from Fabletown during the 1800s. I'm not the biggest fan of Westerns, so that may color my opinion of the storyline that doesn't really add much to Jack's character or motivation--he still likes money and women.
The second half highlights the three Page sisters. Now there are more differences between them than just the frames of their glasses. Their brief backstories are fine, but there's barely any progression of the plot as the Bookburner marches toward Golden Boroughs.
The deus ex machina at the end is a bit of a cheat, but is a great storytelling meta-commentary.

Man, I have to say, it's rough getting through these Jack of Fables books in order to finish off the Fables series. The character is so unlikable to me, I keep hoping someone will finish him off for good, and he keeps getting rescued for what seems to be no apparent reason. I have to assume he'll get some sort of redemption in the end, like Gollum, but right now it's pretty painful.
(As a side note, I don't enjoy James Bond either, for many of the same reasons...so you may use that to validate/invalidate this as you will.)

This wasn't the best Jack of Fables volume; I was hoping for continuation of the main story, but the Jack Candles story that took up most of the book came off as rather dull and unnecessary.
