This is more of an extended essay than anything, and I couldn't shake the feeling for the whole short thing that the other thought she was being way deeper than she actually was. This book felt very dated - the critique of the monotony and negative economic effects of the superstore, the unifying power of it as a meeting ground of all classes and all generations, the weathervane-like ability of it to signal cultural social change... I thought we knew all that already? Maybe the French didn't.
Also, the author explained this choice but the way she went out of her way to share the race of the people she was observing was giving real Old Lady vibes.

Mu esimene katse Ernaux'd lugeda, ilmselt...mitte kõige õnnestunum valik, esmatutvuseks või siis äkki lihtsalt kitsalt minule? Kas Ernaux ongi selline...päevikupidaja, ka oma romaanides? Kui jah, siis ma rohkem ei torgi, sest selles tekstis oli "mina-minu-mulle-mina-mina-mina" lihtsalt liiga palju. Liiga palju autorit. Teiseks jäi kraapima positsioon - autori pilk mõjus kuidagi...üleolevalt armulikuna, jälgides prantsuse supermarketites oma argiseid käike tegevaid inimesi. Ma saan aru, et aastal 2012 võis see "näete, kuidas ma märkan vaeseid ja soostereotüüpe ja erinevaid kultuure ja nahavärve, ma olen ikka nii tähelepanelik" mõjuda tõesti eeskujulikuna, aga 2024 seda lugedes tundub tekst sellise...iseendale rinnale trummeldamisena.

Tout petit livre lu en une heure.
Mon tout premier Annie Ernaux. C’est la retranscription d’une interview qu’elle a eu avec Michelle Porte. J’ai beaucoup aimé l’écriture d’Annie Ernaux, tout dans la simplicité.
Je suppose que ce livre est un peu différent de ces autres œuvres car c’est une interview écrite mais moi qui n’était pas forcément tentée par cette autrice, j’ai bien envie de la découvrir un peu plus en detail avec d’autres de ces livres.

Librito muy entretenido en el que Annie Ernaux pone sobre el papel reflexiones entorno a los supermercados: qué papel juegan en nuestra sociedad, cómo nos relacionamos las personas en él, y cómo estos moldean nuestros modos de consumo. No pensé que un tema como este pudiera dar pie a tantas reflexiones, ya que es inevitable pensar en la propia experiencia como consumidor de supermercado al leerlo. En resumen, interesantísima aportación a la literatura de un símbolo tan potente de nuestra cotidianidad.
Caught myself smiling a lot in the intricacies of Ernaux's ability to capture subtle behaviors of every day life, and the large message about capitalism and individualism. Very delicately drawn out and enjoyed this little book with a big message.
