I don’t like Elle

I could not stand Elle!! She was the reason why I gave 2 stars, she was so annoying so stuck in the victim mentality and it made her a bully, nix was nice, funny and not an asshole at all, all their problems were because of her and her past, her insecurities, she was a bitch berk and Jules carried this book and this isn’t even their book!! Not good.

3.5-4

the pacing in these are always not my favorite but i love seeing the guys and dare make appearences.

“She was a part of me I hadn’t even known was missing.
She was the first best decision I’d made in my life, and her love made every day worth it.”

Largest intro ever! How long did it take for the protagonists to interact?! And once I paused reading I couldn't care enough to go back to these characters.

Maya hughes is back at it again! This story and series is a great addition to the NA romance world. This was the SECOND book in the Fulton U series and a great addition to it. It’s fun and easy! It’s filled with amazing side characters, all the feels and enemies to lovers!! Nix and Elle were hilarious together, their banters and little fights are what made this story so fun to read. They had such chemistry, and their hate to love relationships made it all the more passionate. Through the book, the idea of them being together grow on me, more and more. I loved them together. I’m super excited for the next couple of books and seeing this awesome group of friends and characters.

Thank you so much to Maya Hughes for this opportunity!

This book felt so damn long I thought I would never finish it. I know it says it's only 328 pages but that MUST be a formatting thing because there is no way this book wasn't at least 400 pages or like 100,000 words.

Don't really feel like saying anything more about this book other than I did not really like the heroine. I found her fake and hypocritical as fuck. Legit don't know why the hero even bothered when she was so horrible to him the entire book and never really grows.

I'm still really nervous for Berk and Jules's book...but I'm really excited for LJ and Marisa's.

Maya's books are like crack for me. I will read every single one and savor them.
This was no exception. I am so invested in this group of college kids.
They are so much fun. Hilarious antics and banter. The relationships they all have with each other are unique and I just wish I could be a part of it.
Nix is just about the sweetest guy on the face of the earth and he has a tough task breaking down the huge walls that Elle has thrown up after some people had done her wrong in her past. I just love reading a story where you can actually visualize the moments that the characters realize that the feelings they had toward someone has changed.
I just want more!! Can't wait for the next story.

Did someone say enemies to lovers?!  I AM HERE FOR IT!

The Second We Met is a standalone new adult enemies to lovers story and book two in the Fulton U series by Maya Hughes.

This is my first book by this author, but I feel like I need to dive into her back-list because I LOVED this one!  Maya has an easy but evocative writing style with good pacing and fantastic characters.

I liked Elle and Nix so much that I didn’t want this story to end.  Elle has a lot on her plate — she’s ambitious and has trust issues from being burned in the past.  Nix is the golden boy — a star athlete with professional prospects and an over-bearing father.  The close proximity (as neighbors and as volunteers on the same project) adds a fun element, and I loved the shift in their relationship as they go from enemies to friends then more.  They really are perfect for each other, but it took some bumps and lowering of their guards to get to that realization.  The burn is slow but so good!

Overall, I absolutely recommend The Second We Met!  This sweet and sexy read is perfect for fans of contemporary sports romance, and what better time to read it than football season!

*Thanks to the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.  Please note that it, in no way, had an effect on my opinion or review.

unfort i did not love this book very much and now im about to go on a rampant as to why

tldr: the enemies wasnt giving and the female main character was lowkey insufferable, but loved the male main character and his friends eeek

i feel like this book was marketed as an enemies to lovers, but i feel like it was a lot more of a one sided enemies where elle hated his guts and he was just being ... himself? like hes popular on campus everyone wants to be his friend everyone wants to be in like in his limelight (omg last minute add on to the playlist: slut)

anyway yeah i feel like the "enemies" in this enemies to lovers was very much giving the hating game where it was one sided and the guy just always had some sort of fascination with her

i feel like that in addition to me not being the biggest fan of elle, almost made it a 1 star read for me

i do think tho that part of the reason i might not be the biggest fan of elle was because we share the same negative qualities of being stubborn and overworking ourselves, but again if i wanted to read about my own negative qualities i would reread an old journal entry of mine

back to the story. i feel like the way it transitioned itself from enemies to sort of friends felt a little quick like there was never really a point where they were enemies, even when elle hated him most he was still doing nice things behind her back like is the "enemies" in the room with us rn

anyway as a couple i also didnt really love them together tbh, like it felt like for 90% of the story elle was acting like she was better than him and just bc he played football and was popular on campus didnt mean that he could be deep and do community service, like girl calm down

and then when he did try to do nice things for her like help recruit people to the blood drive SHE GOT MAD AT HIM AGAIN (obvs the first time around it did end up being shit but still didnt he get more people to come like isnt that what she was hoping for? same thing with the building houses, like?)

i also just feel like as a couple they were missing that wow factor, and i feel like were giving more fwb energy then they were soulmates ,, which is why i unfort was about to give them a 3 but as im writing this review it was giving more 2 star energy bc this has def turned into a dislike review

the only reason though why i slightly considered giving a 3 is because i LOVE NIX, like hes such an acts of service guy and the way he cares about his grandpa and his friends too like im obsessed and the julesberk crumbs like im so freaking excited for the next book and the ljmarisa crumbs too i cant wait to see how their story unfolds (like im methodically rubbing my hands together at the thought of the childhood friends to lovers)

i do feel a smidge bad for giving it 2 stars but again i ate it up bc i loved the crumbs and nix, i just wasn’t really a big fan of elle and i feel like thats what deterred me from really leaning into this book and enjoying it

i can see the potential and why ppl liked it tho maybe just bc it hit too close to home and elle just really got on my nerves?

the man - taylor swift
slut - taylor swift
i love you im sorry - gracie abrams
pov - ariana grande
shout out to my ex - little mix
antihero - taylor swift
heaven - niall horan

Just not fan of enemies to lovers. They are all predictable and this wasn’t catching my attention I would have to force myself to finish a page.
