I loved this book! Light and easy read. Finished in an afternoon.

A cute mystery for middle-schoolers.

Read this with my big guy (8yo) on my Kindle when he would sneak into bed with me. We so enjoyed it. I would suggest this to anyone who just wants to read a sweet story about a Little Free Library and just feel good for a minute in this scary, scary world.

This book was exactly what I needed. I've been reading some dark stuff lately and needed something light hearted to balance me out. This book was perfect. If you love books and libraries, this is perfect!

I was not aware that this was in fact a middle school age book until I had read 1/4 of it. Cute story & quick read.

This is a cute little mystery with some fantasy/supernatural elements for middle grade readers. Rebecca Stead was one of the middle grade authors who made me realize that I could fully engage with a middle grade read even as an adult. So in that context, this book was slightly disappointing. It was not that it was bad - it just wasn't Rebecca Stead good.

A little free library has mysteriously appeared in town, overseen by an orange cat. Eleven-year-old Evan is in his final year of elementary school and starts wondering how books from a fatal library fire decades ago got into the little free library. He sets out to solve the mystery himself.

Like all Stead endings, the ending was incredibly touching and elevated the book. But the slowly winding threads of Evan, the orange cat (Mortimer) and the ghost of one of the librarians lost in the fire (Al), took a while to get there (even though the book is quite short!).

I spent this entire book stressed, worried for Mortimer but all is well. Cute story with a surprise or two. Quite enjoyable.

What a cute little middle grade. Prefect for adults and children. This book had a fun little twist that I didn’t see coming.
