The Duke of Wilby was so autocratic it felt more like his story than Pippa‘s or Luke‘s (who by the way were not memorable as characters), even up to the last scene of the epilogue. I feel like I have (uselessly) gotten to know a whole family tree‘s worth of names. And if this is supposed to be romantic, romance is dead.

The two main characters were nice enough but dare I say boring? Definitely a slower book, but I didn’t feel any particular burn was present though the author kept telling us so. Felt like all the other characters had more life, unfortunately. The epilogue was quite touching though.
Moderate: Infidelity
Minor: Death and War

I wanted more here. I just didn’t understand why they loved each other. It was like everyone told them they should be together enough times that they caved. I was going to rate it in the 3.5 star range because I wanted more emotional development but the epilogue made me cry so 3.75 stars.
