Beautiful language. The beginning and end of this book are just dripping with an evocative love for the world. There is a lot of humanity in this, per the thesis. There is also a lot of dated ideas and “written by a man” syndrome for some of the more female narratives. The good is beautiful. I skimmed a few, but read most and cut up many lines for collaging. 

Highlights include: The Persistence of Nature in Our Lives, One of Solomon’s Concubines, Dying Exults in Her Virginity, Julia Tutwiler State Prison for Women, and Consider
