My mom told me about this book after hearing about it on Canada Reads. We both out it on hold and I was lucky enough to receive an audiobook version first.
First I must say that I love Tanis Parenteau's narration. She is excellent at getting emotion and feeling to come through in her voice.
Mackenzie starts having nightmares, but the worst part is that upon waking she realises she is bringing items from the dream world into the waking world.
As she becomes more worried about the dreams are trying to tell her she finally decides to go back home to find out if her family can help her stop them, and if there is any cultural significance to them.
She learns that prophetic dreaming runs in her family, and that she should listen to the dreams instead of trying to fight them. she delves into her past in hopes that it will give her more understanding.
I really enjoyed learning tidbits about Cree culture. It also highlighted how important family bonds are, that we are stronger together than we are apart.
I really enjoyed this novel and am not surprised that it was selected for Canada Reads. I highly recommend it, and look forward to reading whatever Jessica Johns writes next!

Sowe good ideas, but I think it could have used some refining as well.

I love this book. this book genuinely had me creeped out at some points! i really enjoyed the folklore involved in this book and also how closely we follow along with the main character. dealing with grief + loss was a huge part of this book and was simultaneously absolutely heartbreaking at some parts.
