33 Men

Fascinating details about this terrible accident and dramatic rescue. I'd had no idea that after the miners were saved from starvation by the arrival of supplies from the outside, they threatened a hunger strike, or that so many of the miners volunteered to be the last one rescued so that they could claim a stake to the Guinness Book of World Records...

Listening to this audiobook was riveting. Although the men were trapped in a mine for 10 weeks, the story is uplifting. No one died and the entire world pulled together and volunteered their time and resources to save the 33 miners. The narrator was excellent. Great story, I loved it.

Really great story that happened not too long ago. So interesting to read what happened inside the mine all those days.

Brilliantly written. A must read for any survivor.

Jonathan Franklin is an American journalist with a Chilean wife and 6 daughters. He has lived in Chile for 18 years. He was the only journalist allowed behind the rescue line during the 69 days the miners were trapped. The book alternates between the miner's story and the rescue team's story. Both are compelling. The good, the bad and the ugly are all here, but it is at heart a story of cooperation and the triumph of the human spirit. I would have liked to know more about how the men are faring now.

Up there with "Five Days at Memorial" for gripping, harrowing non-fiction.

i have to admit i didn't follow this story all that closely when it was happening...but the book was fascinating and inspiring! makes me want to see the movie that just came out. overall, a good book to listen to (or read).
