Such a subtle depiction of class conscious England, told through the eyes of a boy who's a go between in every sense of the world...between the lower and the upper class, between boyhood and manhood, between one lover and another. A sublime sense of dread pervades the book as the reader knows that no good will come of this summer in the country house.

This novel is superb in every way, the plotting, the atmosphere, the writing itself. It reminded me a lot of two of my other favorite novels, The Great Gatsby and Brideshead Revisited.
