This prequel is nothing like To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. It’s more like The Old Man And The Sea in space: boring and depressing with an ending that resolves nothing. This is probably the worst book I’ve read this year.

Not sure if its a spoiler or not. I'm a little disappointed. I guess I was hoping for more of a sci-fi direction than emotional/relationship story. It was interesting, but more in the way I wanted to know how it ended than anything else rather than enjoying the ride to the end....

Not as good as To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.. The ending doesn’t deliver at all. This should have been an intro chapters into TSiaSoS rather than a separate book…

i enjoyed this book once i got into it! the beginning is a little slow and hard to follow ( as most sci fi books are) since there was so many new terms and characters. i really liked how things slowly started to advance and then get progressively faster and faster as it went on. the visual presentation of the sound was very neat. apparently this was a prequel to the series and it definitely piqued my interest into possibly picking up the first book. i would definitely recommend!

This was darker than I expected it to be. Nothing really happens per se, but the main character's introspection was heavy.
