What a completely beautiful and enchanting novel. I’ve never really read anything ‘gothic’ to be honest, but I had read Zafon’s ‘Shadow of the Wind’ (also an incredible read)…
Although both very different novels, both books pay incredible homage to the city of Barcelona and its history that fills it’s streets. Zafon captures this absolutely perfectly l.
Marina was not what I expected at all, and not in a bad way! I loved how there were parts in the book to keep your heart racing, parts where a beautiful friendship and romance is blessing and parts in which your heart just wants to break.
I’ve read this as part of a book club and I cannot wait to discuss this book with fellow readers!
I highly recommend this book as a summer holiday read, it’s gripping and a really beautiful story.

So beautiful. I don't want to give anything away - the writing is poetic, drawing you onto the streets of Barcelona and you can't help but be enamoured by Oscar and Marina. The story explores love, family, friendship, loss, and all the ways in which we process grief. Read it!

4,5 stelline!
