This brilliantly shows the difficulty of balancing a normal thing like a birthday party next to the exhausting life of fighting monsters. We are introduced to Princess Sneezewort, who is delightful, and a cast of 12 princesses, who are wonderfully diversified.

A fun, fast-moving story about the princess in black. Not quite as much of a plot or friendship story in this one as some in the story.

I read this with my 5 year old. She loves these books. They make her want to learn to read. They are not involved or complex, but perfect for a young reader or read aloud to a young audience.

medium-paced
This is the perfect series to help budding readers transition out of picture books into early chapter books. bright illustrations, fin characters, and interesting vocabulary make this a great book for any young reader.
More fun with the Princess in Black as she tries to get through her birthday party, even though the monsters just can't seem to stop wanting to eat the goats
A delightful sequel! The two things I loved most: the enormous range of diversity presented, and the playful words. Who can resist a unicorn named Frimplepants?
Another fun installment in this series and a great look at how being a superhero is hard work.
Edit in 2020: kiddo #2 is in LOVE with this book and we’ve read it every night for a while.
