I love Reacher books but this dragged on...maybe it was because it was an audiobook or maybe because it was a younger Reacher?! Not sure, but definitely not rated as high as the others

So I thought I would finally read one of Lee Child’s books after watching the Amazon show, Reacher. It was fast paced and fairly simple to follow, not trying too hard to be something it wasn’t. This book, wasn’t quite like that. A little overdone in places and trying to add twists and unexpected events in too often, it made the book drag on to what was an inevitable climax.

Not bad but too many diversions from the main plot making a good book and story one that I just wanted to end. 3 stars just based on the enjoyability of the murder side of the plot.

One big Jack Reacher flashback?

The best Reacher yet. I want more of his Army days!

Just as the series was starting to feel bloated and leave me wanting this one comes along and reminds me why I like the series so much. Ironic really as this is a precursor to book 1 so it really does take things back to the start. It tells the story of Reacher in the army or at least his perceived last days.

It's a good fun read but you can tell the age of this book due to certain things mentioned in the book. Not a bad thing and somewhat in keeping with the time in the book but others around this time frame don't feel as dated.

It was good to find out more about Reachers past and to help flesh out that character arc. The constantly bedding the women he is around is just predictable though and wish we could vary the formula just once.
