Il y a une certaine beauté dans l’horreur de l’histoire qui se trouve entre les pages de ce roman. Ce n’est définitivement pas mon genre de littérature, mais je peux reconnaître que la trangression du récit est divertissante.
J’hésite à lire ses autres romans. Leur quatrième de couverture me parle, mais c’était le cas avec celui-ci aussi.

Brief review - I still needs more time to actually think about this book. I both loved it and was completely confused by it. I loved and hated it - who knows? I was hooked though.
This was a super violent, super weird book. It’s a revenge fantasy and a mediation on violence perpetrated on children. There was so much anger in this book that I loved it. I think … maybe … who knows.

L'idée d'enfants qui reviennent à la vie pour pointer du doigt la violence, la maltraitance ou l'incompétence des adultes me plaisait bien, je m'attendais à un genre de conte cruel. Sans grande surprise c'est un récit sombre, mais je l'ai trouvé aussi confus et j'ai eu beaucoup de mal à rentrer dedans et y rester. C'est peut être juste un style auquel je ne suis pas du tout sensible mais la mention franchement désinvolte d'actes incestueux et pédophiles m'a laissée assez froide devant cette lecture.

Well constructed. Well thought out. There is a through line to Dennis Cooper, John Reichy, JT LeRoy, et al, even Hanya Yanagihara. The class and leftist politics are way better here than any of those others. Like, the basic premise is right: everything is poisoned and capitalism is the problem.

the translation here is striking, but the text was just too stark for me to really feel for these characters. maybe it was intended to be sterile, but i felt so removed from this narrative that it felt less like a cohesive story and more like a collection of pathologizing musings of unlikeable characters.
