I’ve seen this book around a lot and never quite got round to picking up. I was looking for a high school mystery murder drama kind of thing and this one hit all the marks. It was exactly what I was looking for and it delivered.

Illumin hall sees a tragedy through the death of Lola. The police declare it by misadventure but those who know her know she’d never be so reckless… with a true crime Podcast doing the rounds, interest is growing but is there more danger in trying to uncover the killer? There’s also murmurs of a mysterious Magie society…

I was into this book from the very start and quickly grew to enjoy following the main characters, Ivy and Audrey. Listening to the podcasts, following the clues and piecing things together, it was super intriguing. It was well paced, entertaining and I was definitely invested.

And with the loose ends that the book left us with, it certainly has me immediately lining up the second book because there’s no way I can leave it like that!

While I liked the idea of the book, the story didn't grab me like I hoped it would, apart from the ending, which ended disappointing for me.

The flow of the book just didn't work, almost 2/3 of the book was almost boring, hinting at things that didn't get revealed. Other things were so easily to figure out.

It's a shame because the story had so much potential and the writing was good.

I liked it?? But honestly I feel like they made NO progress in actually finding out. They pretty much completed a couple side quests which made no real impact on the main story line because they haven’t gotten much closer to finding out?! I honestly feel that a reader could skip the first book and move straight to the second and it will make no impact on the story other then not understanding who a few characters are.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I don't know exactly who wrote what in regard to it being co-written, but I think I liked Ivy's character more than Audrey's.

The book starts off a bit blah. It is very YA. Don't get me wrong, I like YA books... but the ones I have read and LOVE aren't as new as this one. I guess I just couldn't relate as much because I'm not in high school anymore and some of the things seemed very trivial...

Once I got part the use of 'Snapchat selfie' and 'IRL' being used, the story itself did have me wondering WHO KILLED LOLA?

It was a well-written story. Nothing to rave about. I enjoyed it, I will read the next one in the series, but I have no desire to reread it once I am done with it.

My only other point is that I think the edition of Audrey's backstory was kinda urg, ya know? They alluded to it averagely throughout, and then made it so blerg. Not a fan there.
