It’s a nice short story but definitely an extra. You don’t have to read it to enjoy the rest of the series.

I've read Steelheart, and although I'm not usually into YA writing, I enjoyed the world building and premise of that book enough that I decided to continue reading the series. That being said, this novella, was really disappointing. The writing was mediocre, as though Sanderson couldn't be bothered, and the plot was so simplistic that it read more like middle grade. I realise novellas are limited because of their length, but Mitosis seems like nothing more than a cash grab.

The story is fine if the goal is to read a little more in that world, but it doesn't add much to the story as a whole.

3 1/2 stars. I loved Steelheart-- this is a fun short story to read while I wait for Firefight to come out in January. :)

This should have been a prologue to Steelheart. It was only 32 pages long. Interesting wrap up to Steelheart, and (hopefully) good intro into Firefight, which I'm starting next.
