I met the author of this book, he’s lovely. He spoke with our writing class and was very entertaining. This book though was a drag for me. I don’t think I’m cut out for literary fiction.

A bit tiresome. Enough momentum to keep me going, but reads like it’s trying to be a DFW book.

Another work of brilliance by Levin. It doesn't have the weight of The Instructions, or the distance of Bubblegum, and feels much more intimate than either of those (probably because, no matter how much he protests in interviews about the "character" Adam Levin and not him, his actual self, Adam Levin as the Adam Levin in Mount Chicago, it's a protest that falls apart (don't put pictures of yourself in a book that you allegedly aren't a character in if you don't want people to think you aren't a character in it, basically)).

I wanted to like this so badly. Great premise, interesting characters, but I just... didn't. I found the writing style kinda hard to follow, and the constant rabbit-holes into random subjects like Hitler's egg preferences proved too much for me to overcome. I'm sure that I'll return to this book and love it, but I just didn't have the patience for 600 pages of it.

Long and delightfully rambly- I listened to this book and just felt like I was carried away into this sometimes-nonsensical and almost always poignant storytelling. This book is a vibe though.
