i really enjoy the historical aspects of these books. it’s why i’m still reading this series.

however, if this ancient, decrepit degenerate makes one more comment about breasts, i will wring his neck.

9/10 Stars. More blood feuds resolved for Uhtred in this novel and that was excellent. And we finally see something start to happen in Northumbria! I do wish Leofstan had had a larger part, he was a good character, and I really wanted Uhtred to out Mus, tell Aethelflaed who she really is. Perhaps next book. An issue was the claim that Stiorra is Uhtred's youngest child. In "Sword Song", Stiorra is the second child, coming after Uhtred the younger (Judas/Oswald). The youngest is Osbert (renamed Uhtred). Not sure why the birth order was changed. Otherwise a great novel, hopefully book #10 is out soon!

The climax didn't quite live up to the build up but promise of an exciting next (last) instalment
