Не люблю книги о бессмертных и им подобных, потому что где они и где мы, и нам бы их проблемы.
Но увлекательная хрень.

A truly original book. A cleverly written, compelling read.

An intriguing read. It was a chase through time, with a new definition for time-travel.
Politics, religion/beliefs and morality come into play while reading it, so it presents an interesting panorama.
The writing was good and the characters well defined (you could hate them with abandon). Beware if you are against open endings, because while you get to choose how to interpret it, one of those lectures could very well be that we are not sure how the continues once the last page is read.

Ostensibly there is absolutely nothing wrong with this novel. It's easy-reading, with a scientific bent, and full of those rather thought-provoking paradoxes that occur every time you watch a time travel movie like T2 and realise that everything is somehow illogical. Actually this book does a good job of avoiding the classic pitfalls, and it turns out to be a clever take on the whole reincarnation jolly.

But there we have it. Clever. I'm not a big fan of clever books. I prefer wisdom and heart, and this does neither particularly well. My major gripe is that for all his many lifetimes, and thus his abundance of life experience, our eponymous hero, Harry August is, well, a bit of an insipid character. I'd hesitate to call him two dimensional, but he's very far from spectacular. Mild mannered and rather mediocre is my impression.

So, all good fun, but not a classic in any shape or form.

This is my second read of the adventures of Harry August. I love the premise and characters. I frequently recommend this book to others.

A very interesting blend of historical fiction and science fiction. One of the more creative books I've read.
