Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond
Blurb
Maddie's getting it from all sides. Her bitchy new boss at the radio station humiliates her live on air about her figure, her glamour-puss mum keeps dropping not-so-subtle hints that Maddie should lose weight and her kids are embarrassed to be seen with her after the disastrous Mums' race at their school sports day. Something's got to change...
My Opinion
This was an addictive read. I enjoyed that this book was split into three character's perspectives. Each of the women has their own reasons for joining their local Fatbusters group and quickly become firm friends. I am a fan of Lucy Diamond so when I spotted a book I hadn't already read I knew that I wanted to read it.
This is a nice light read with some very real topics. A joy to read - I found myself flying through this.

Light, fluffy and easy to read. Some of the references in it were a bit dated but didn't stop it being a warm and enjoyable read with characters you really wanted to root for. Haven't read anything by Lucy Diamond in years but will definitely pick some more up when I'm in the mood for something comforting.

For me, this was typical, trashy, escapist chick lit, but at the same time, the topics involved I could relate to. Admittedly, this book wasn't particularly long, and din't take me long to read. However, that was completely okay, given the fact that I paid very little for it on the kindle store, and the feelgood buzz it gave me.
The story follows three women, who lead very different lives, and have a grand total of one thing in common - they're all members of their local Fatbusters group (think weightwatchers/slimming world).
Lauren is a bolshy singleton, who's day job it is to run a dating agency called Love Hearts. Ironically, Lauren is completely anti-love and romance following the break up of her marriage due to her husband cheating. Jessica is a gently hearted beautician, who deserves better than her boyfriend gives her, and Maddie is a middle aged Mum who is fed up with her evil boss' constant comments.
The three make an unlikely trio, but they help each other through their challenge to lose weight, and through the other life events they face along the way.
Nothing completely new in the plot, but definitely a good lazy afternoon read.

I'm so disappointed.
This story doesn't show any female empowerment at all.
Why couldn't these wonderful women be empowered and do everything they wanted and still be fat.
It just reiterated the notion that fat=bad and we need better than that. As women.
