This was an amazing read. Just like Kick, Push, I loved this story if not more. Jay McLean made Becca and Josh more relatable in this book and I loved watching the course of their relationship. The characters were amazing and I thought the story was enhanced by the beautiful writing. Becca and Josh’s relationship was an emotional rollercoaster. I was crying and laughing while I read the entire book. I thought it was perfect and I hope she writes more books. Now I want to read the More Than spin-off, Preston Brothers. Can’t wait to read them. Overall, an incredible read.
Holy shiitake the feels! They're freakin' everywhere in this book, and I hate feeling the feels. Man what a book, I couldn't put this amazing story down. There was so much going on between Becca and Josh, I just couldn't stop reading. Tommy is hands down the best fictional book kid in the history of ever!! He just melts this cold and dead heart. Broken, healing, crazy, funny, happy and love. This story had it all. Damn it was soooooo good!!
I really love Jay McLean's books! this series left me on the verge of tears many times. Great story! :)
Ugh.
She’s done it again. Jay McLean has written another book that has all the feels that leaves you feeling drained dry for days afterward. I alternated between laughing, crying and smiling. Coast was an amazing journey of heartache, longing, grief, healing and love. It’ll take your breath away and then give it back, healing you. My heart hurt after I was finished. It’s fire trucking amazing.
It jumps off right where Kick, Push left off. So if you haven’t read it recently, a skim over the end might be worth it (or you could do what I did and completely devastate yourself by rereading it right before starting Coast). Josh Warden’s professional skate career has taken off and his name is really getting out there. He doesn’t let that change him much though; he still puts his son first. Becca is on a journey of healing, growing stronger, finding herself and taking classes. This all eventually leads her back to Josh. And Tommy’s being Tommy, becoming more of an adorable flirt as he grows up.
I don’t want to spoil too much of the magic of McLean by revealing too much of the plot or story. It’s not smooth sailing for Josh and Becca, but the growth they experience as individuals and as a couple is a beautiful thing to experience. I cannot recommend this book enough.

*DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW OR THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVE NOT READ KICK, PUSH*
**IF YOU HAVEN'T READ KICK, PUSH WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!?**
I have been not so anxiously waiting for this book for, what seems like, forever. I remember when I got to like 90% of Kick, Push and realized that there was no way there was going to be a HEA, I was gutted. I specifically remember my husband and children looking at me like I was crazy because I was crying so much. Josh both broke and won my heart and I NEEDED to see him get his HEA which could only mean getting HIS Becca.
Coast picks up a year after Becca and Josh last saw each other and their reunion isn't exactly a happy one. They have been living very separate lives and I don't think either of them were prepared to see just how much things had changed.
This is where I have to step up and admit that I was not a fan of the first 23% of the book. I understand that it was meant to be a necessary step in Becca's healing but I feel like the same results could have come in a totally different way. Perhaps the best part of that 23% was seeing how Becca and her dad have established a good relationship and how he is helping her move forward.
The 77% that followed that rough patch took place over a couple of years and it was brilliant. So much so that I forgot all about being pissed off. It was heartbreaking but beautiful. Seeing Josh and Becca reconnect at a slow and steady pace was both torture and everything I could ever hope for.
Josh Warden will forever be a top 5 book boyfriend for me. I love that through everything he and Becca were going through he never faltered in his loyalty and love for her. He ALWAYS put her happiness first but NEVER pretended that he didn't hope for more. His feelings were always out in the open but he still gave her the space she needed to heal.
I fell in love with him in Kick, Push because of the way that he loved Tommy with everything that he was and how much he hated when anyone referred to him as a mistake. I wish that I was half the mother to my kids that Josh is a dad to Tommy. In Coast you get to see Tommy grow in front of your very eyes and what a great little man he's growing into. He was adorable and hilarious "like last time" but he also provided some of the most heartfelt scenes in the whole book. I think that a book about Tommy when he's older needs to happen for sure.
While this book is mostly about Becca's journey and healing, you'll see growth in each of the secondary characters as well as the decline of another. It's both heartbreaking and heartwarming and I suggest you have tissues on hand to make it through. Becca and Josh's story is a rough one to get through but the way that Jay McLean finishes was perfection and it left me completely satisfied. This series is one that I will be coming back to often.

The ups and downs continue in this conclusion (I think?? Right??) to the saga of Josh and Becca. I was as hooked on this read as I was on the first one, and I don't think I have much more to say - except that McLean's writing is some of the most beautiful, heartfelt, and moving I've read of late.
P.S. The scene with the balloons made my environmentalist heart bleed.

Continuation of Kick Push
I love Tommy! He's the star of this series. So sweet and wise, he's a little old man. Becca and Josh have a hard time reconnecting. She's in St Louis attending college and Josh is traveling all over as a pro skater. Plus, when he's home, he's in North Carolina, where he lives with Tommy and Gramps. Becca still has her mental problems, attends a counselor, speech therapist, support group, plus classes and community work. She has improved a lot and is overcoming her fears, one by one. Through the book we see her getting stronger, see Josh learning to build a healthy relation with her. Incredibly, they both learn a lot from Tommy. Becca's father is a surly presence to Josh at first but they grow to respect. The book was a journey, a little too melodramatic a few times, but I enjoyed it.
