Heart breaking
Reading this story really gets to you how farren suffered by the many people around her. Be it her abuser or her absent minded mother or the kids at school tormenting her. Farren suffered and only one man sought out and demanded to destroy her pain. Crux went above and beyond for his little bird. Be it to avenge her as a child with no voice or as a lover set on vengeance once she became an adult. Always in the shadows watching and waiting to be her comfort when she needed it. It was a brilliant read, although sad that farren had to suffer so.

While I did enjoy the story line, I just felt and wished there was more between the main characters. They didn’t seem to come together for me. HOWEVER, I loved how it came together at the end.

I liked this book better in theory than I did in execution. One, I didn't realize it was only going to be 98 pages long. That was way too short to give the subject matter this author tackles its proper due. Which leads me to my second issue. The doom and gloom of this book was laid on SO thick and for SO long (70 pages) that "I" wanted to drown myself in the bathtub. Sexual abuse. Bullying. It was really just way too much, especially (and I'll say it again) in such a short book.
Which leads me to yet another issue I had. I felt ZERO connection between the hero and heroine. We basically get NO interactions between them until he ends up on her doorstep after he gets out of prison. I didn't believe for ONE second that this girl (who legit should have been taken for a psych eval, in therapy, and on some sort of medication) would just be A-OK with this (not quite all there) hero being all over her.
So yea, this book fell short (see what I did there *lol*) of my expectations. I think had it been about a hundred pages longer and the story fleshed out much much more, it could have been a solid 4-Star read. As it stands, I can't give this one more than 2.

**4.5 stars!***
This book sucked me in the from the very beginning. I was intrigued by Crux and why the son of a billionaire would have been arrested. I loved how he loved Ren more than he loves himself and was not only willing but happy to sacrifice for her.
Ren is terrified of men and suspicious of women but she's never scared of Crux. Even when anger is ravaging him, she's never afraid of him hurting her. Her complete trust in him is exactly what he needs.
I definitely can't wait for the other brothers books!

I know my review is not going to do this book justice. I have been waiting very (im)patiently waiting for this to be released, and I was very, very, very lucky to have been able to win an early copy of this extraordinary book. My heart hurt for Farren, I wanted to take her in my arms and just hold her.
Farren Hallewell has been abused and mistreated for years. The people who were supposed to love and care for her. Because of the abuse she has withdrawn into herself and does not have any friends. Of course, there are some kids at school that love to torment and do things to humiliate her.
Cruz Malcom is a hero in my book. He took matters into his own hands to make sure his bird would be safe. The day he is released he seeks Farren out. He comes to her rescue when a group of kids are bullying her. He steps up to be her protector.
There are some things that comes to light with one of the young men who was tormenting her. Farren steps up and learns to deal with her past. Crux stands beside her through everything. He shows her what it is like to be loved and cared for. He helps her spread her wings and how to live life.
The only thing I wished for in this book, is that we would have been some closure where her mother was concerned. I'm looking forward to see what is in store for Free and Cross.

For a novella, this story sure packs an emotional punch! My heart broke for Farren, she has gone through so much in her young life. Her experiences can cause possible triggers in some readers so the warning was appreciated. I was so glad that Farren had Crux in her life now. She really needed a champion when she was younger but I am glad there is someone for her now who is there to protect her.
Crux was the one who eliminated Farren’s abuser and he was punished for it, but he is out now and ready to take on any lasting demons she may have. Farren’s present is still filled with anguish including her own negative thoughts about herself and outside tormentors. He is determined to be by her side from here on out. There story was filled with so much pain and angst, rage and obsession but with so much love, it was actually very beautiful.
This was a great read, I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
