I did not read these stories as they are ordered between the novels, but for the most part it is unnecessary. The only story that does leave a hole in the novel after is the one concerning the Queen of Louisiana. As a fan of the Stackhouse universe, these short stories are fun and allow additional development of secondary characters outside the confines of the novels. A fun way to get a little extra Sookie in while waiting for the next full-length novel.

Although the short stories were well written, I didn't feel they necessarily added anything to the series.

Good to read if you are reading the Sookie Stackhouse books since characters and plots of these short stories may pop up in the full books.

A Touch of Dead is a collection of short stories that revolve around the Sookie Stackhouse novels. They were an entertaining read. I had heard some bad things about this book, but I think that it was alright. The Sookie Stackhouse novels are my guilty pleasure and I was happy that I had some more to read since I have read all the books in the series up to this point.

I was a bit miffed that this volume came out AFTER I'd bought 5 anthologies to get these Sookie stories! Ah well, more for me to read later! This was a good buy though and I particularly like that the book tells you exactly where each story fits in the Sookieverse. So you can slot them in between the novels.
FAIRY DUST:Claudine and Claude need Sookie's help to find out who murdered Claudette. This was a good story featuring one of my favourite characters, Claudine.
DRACULA NIGHT:Sookie goes to Fangtasia Dracula's birthday party. Eric is thrilled when Dracula himself turns up. This one was so funny, showing Eric and Pam at their best. Brilliant!
ONE WORD ANSWER:Sookie gets word that her cousin is dead. It fills in a nice gap in the novels and sets up the plot change in the later books.
LUCKY:Sookie and Amelia start to investigate a break in at Greg's office. The hapless duo manage to make a mess of things which is quite amusing.
GIFT WRAP:Sookie's Christmas is interrupted when she finds an injured Were and she tries to save him from his enemies. This sweet story has a surprising (brilliant) twist!
My favourite just had to be Dracula Night! The sight of Eric in such a frenzy while Pam gets a chance to mock him was just great!

Since this book consists of 5 short stories I am going to review them all.
Fairy Dust
In this one Claudine, the fairy needs Sookie's help.
This was an ok short story, Sookie used her power, and the fairies showed their true nature.
One Word Answer
A man shows up at Sookie's house to give her that which belonged to her cousin.
This one explains more about Hadley. I remember reading the book where Sookie went to New Orleans and being a bit confused. SO this one could have been good to read beforehand.
Dracula Night
Eric is going crazy planning a party because every year Dracula himself attends one, and Eric really wants it to be his.
This one was my favourite, and I am not saying that because Eric was in it, ok that played a part. But it was interesting with the whole myth about Dracula, and there was Sookie and Eric interaction.
Lucky
An insurance agent asks Sookie for help and together with Amelia she plays detective.
A little detective work and an ok story.
Giftwrap
Sookie finds a wounded shifter in the forest, it's Christmas and she is all alone and takes him home.
This one had a little heat in it, a tiny bit. But it was a good and surprising story.
Overall I found myself enjoying these stories more than the books. Sookie fits really well in a short story, and these were from different times during her life after she met Bill. This one explains some things, and some are just pure amusement. A little treat for Sookie Stackhouse lovers.
But, I do feel like you should have read the first 8 books so you really grasp things. Like the fairies, her grandfather and who Amelia is, no to mention the whole were community. In the book it also says when the stories takes place.
Final thoughts: I was amused, and it reminded me that I really need book 9.

Buena presentación de la reina de Luisiana, me encanta como Charlaine va creando el misterio y la conclusión, al menos para mí, son siempre satisfactorias.

Great literature it is not. But it moves quickly and is entertaining, just like the rest of the Stackhouse books. The best story is probably "Dracula Night," where Sookie attends a Fangtasia party commemorating Dracula's birth -- Eric is unusually giddy and it's funny. The tale mostly likely to make you say "WTF?" is the last story, "Gift Wrap." Sookie is alone and horny on Christmas Eve, until an injured werewolf shows up in her backyard and has sex with her. Convenient, no? Turns out the "werewolf" is actually a fairy sent by her great-grandfather, also a fairy, as a Christmas gift, because he knew it had been a while since she'd gotten any. Guess you can have any kind of Christmas you want when your grandfather is a fairy pimp.
