I'm honestly not sure if I read this as a child or not. Parts were vaguely familiar, but that just might be similarities within the genre. But it's a sweet story of three siblings in the early 20th century.

I was, however, put off by the narration by Renee Raudman. She was fine with just reading the story, but she spoke the dialogue in a terrible British accent. Sometimes it was just awkward, and others it rambled into Cockney and Australian! You'd think the publisher would select a narrator who could speak with a REAL British accent!

I'm so moved by this wonderful novel; it was just so pure and wholesome. The children are such wonderful characters and they make the story utterly endearing.

It was fine, I guess, for what it is. I’m not sure why it is a classic. It doesn’t seem particularly memorable.

I can’t review this properly because it’s a childhood favourite that still makes me cry (or makes me cry even more as an adult perhaps). There are passages that feel dated but a lot that feels sharp and moving. I still enjoy the narrator and their asides, my daughter was amused by the “if this was a story” parts.
