This is an easy, quick read.
The writing is very simple, but with lots of adventure. A good fit for children who aren't super into reading. I really liked the pace of the story. A lot happens in a short amount of time.
It's a pretty typical "chosen one" story, but I liked the set up and think it has the makings of an interesting series.

I've started listening to this series as an audiobook after reading it as a kid years ago and yeah, still fun! It sounds like a video game and as far as something to listen to while I cycle around town, it very much fills the hole I need for that niche. Very easy to absolutely rip through these bad boys, both as a child and as an adult.
The dragon that lit the flame that launched a thousand team Adam Blade books!! Anyway this is book number one of Beast Quest and the launch of team Adam Blade on the unsuspecting world. Generic, formulaic, a quest to save the world from beasts, although not kill them, but set them free from their trapped state, something to think about there. It is not great literature but for the younger reader it will be a hoot, and it is very popular, and to be honest, it is still better than most of the modern junk coming from team James Patterson, so don't expect a lot, but it is entertaining.
Read the Swedish Edition called "Drakens Vrede" (translated "Wraith of the dragon" so a little off).
My seven year old thought it ought to be rated 4,5 star (and the half star was because he did not like that the prolog and the first chapter of the next book was in it).
As an adult I thought it at times to boring and with strange choices of which details to describe. Ok as a childs book but gave nothing to me.

Jag vet att det är riktigt till ganska unga men detta var verkligen inte något för mig, väldigt förutsägbar samt ibland känner jag att det är en hel del deus ex machina, och det känns lite sloppy.
Dock tror jag den uppskattas väl av barn, den är enkelt, fylld av drakar, svärd, hästar och vargar.

Die Welt ist nicht richtig ausgereift. Warum es die Biester gibt, wie genau sie verpflichtet wurden, welches Magiesystem wirkt (und warum kann der Magier, wenn er so mächtig ist, nicht selbst als Held losziehen?), welche Motivation hinterm Handeln des Bösewichts steht,... Nichts davon wird erklärt und wann immer etwas Unnormales passiert, wird es so schnell wie möglich einfach abgehakt, damit bloß keiner Zeit hat, sich zu fragen, warum das gerade passiert und wie. So greifen Soldaten mal eben einen Wolf an, dann noch einen theoretisch harmlosen Jungen und dann jagen sie beide einfach? Ohne, dass man mal mit einander redet?
Was aber am meisten nervt, ist, wie unglaublich toll Tom, der Protagonist, doch ist. Er ist ein kleiner Junge, aber er wird mal eben zum König geschickt. Dort sieht ein Zauberer auf den ersten Blick, wer Toms Vater ist, und, dass der Junge stark und tapfer und bestimmt ein großer Kämpfer ist - ohne mehr als zwei Sätze mit ihm gewechselt zu haben. Und jeder, der ihn trifft, sieht ihm gleich an, wie toll er ist?
Schriftstellerisch ist das einfach faul. Nichts wird langsam entwickelt, alle Beziehungen starten quasi schon mit einem Boost, und es gibt so viel Action, dass man keine Zeit hat, irgendwas zu hinterfragen. Gute Geschichten gehen anders.

Virkelig flot og gennemført univers. Historien i sig selv er nok til at kunne fastholde både drenge og piger, pigen er for øvrigt en virkelig sej karakter. Det er magi, drager, konger og helte, hvad mere har man brug for?

My son loved these books. He found them from a friend who was obsessed. They are quite addictive and interesting- like a puzzle. The name makes it scarier than it was. We loved this series.
