Another psychological thriller book. Sigh. This one was ok, but having started out with so much promise, actually struggled to maintain the momentum. I felt that the author could have made more of the dynamics of the female friendships but it all seemed rather shallow and somehow unfinished. This was an ok holiday on the beach read but I will not be reaching for another book by the same author.

“I bet you wish you hadn’t accepted the invitation. I can’t say I feel sorry for you. You don’t deserve to be happy after what you’ve done. I, on the other hand, am going to be extremely happy.”
Joanne invites her best friends on a birthday getaway that is promised to be adventurous and fun, until it turns out the invite isn’t exactly to celebrate her birthday. Joanne puts her friends into dangerous situations and plays games with them, until the unthinkable happens and the characters must decide who they can trust.
At the beginning of the book you already know that you’re in for something unexpected and not a happy book about women celebrating with each other. From the moment Carys, Andrea and Zoe reach their destination, you learn they are all hiding secrets and Joanne is determined for them to be revealed. With a game started, they are all unknowingly searching for clues that will reveal one of their friends secret.
Then Joanne is murdered. Suspicion is quickly cast on the remaining characters, the all have motive, they all had the chance. The reader might think they know what has happened, but with all the twists, secrets and deception, you don’t find the full story until the end. The little viewpoints from another character makes me think it was Joanne right to the end when everything became clear, and I loved this about the book! When Carys son is bought into the storyline, it added another sub-plot and questions that I hadn’t thought of before and I was kept guessing until the last minute. A true ‘who done it?’ story.

I really didn't know what to make of this book; on the one hand it was easy to read and the plot was interesting enough to keep me engaged. On the other hand parts of the plot were utterly ridiculous and improbable and all the characters were awful. Seriously I'm glad I don't have friends like this woman. I have never spoken to any of my friends the way this group of girls speak to each other, they are verbally brutal.
If you're looking for a distraction then you'll find it here. If you are looking for a plot that makes sense and subtle characters you are definitely in the wrong place. I'll leave it up to you.

This mystery gave me horror movie vibes, and I'm not mad about it. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Very descriptive: I fancied a cup of tea so I filled the kettle form the cold tap, I then plugged it in and then I switched it on and then I got a cup etc. Normally I put these books down immediately and move on but for some strange reason,it actually worked this time. Interesting story about intertwined relationships
