I would have never thought that I would ever truly enjoy reading a tragicomedy or any dramatic work. It was really different from other of my read books of this genre. It was also quite informative about the lifestyle of soviet Russia.

Uma tragédia que é na verdade uma comédia. Tchekov num período de histórico de transição do drama, cria uma peça onde personagens trágicas se encontram numa narrativa que é risível. Esta transição é encabeçada pelas personagens Arkadina (velha forma de fazer teatro, período romântico, grandes declamações) e Treplev, seu filho (procura novas formas, teatro simbolista).
Esta disparidade entre a tragicidade das personagens e o enredo aparentemente blaisé, cria momentos de risada pura. Claro que há um suicídio mas mesmo esse suicídio parece deslocado em relação à aparente falta de eventos dramáticos na +peça

Listening to a play does not do watching a play justice, so take my star rating with a grain of salt :).
I enjoyed the listen while gardening and notices the themes of unrequited love and the anguish of the struggling artist. What caught my attention and made me contemplate human nature was the theme of narcissism sprinkled into the characters.
