An well written and emotional play. All of the characters have wonderful emotional arks and it has a great understanding on the difference between happiness and famous.

Nina's redemption arc was the only thing that redeemed this play. thankful I'm never doing a Russian drama again.

This is my first read of a Chekhov play! It’s very dreary, but not in a hopeless way. People keep telling me that Chekhov has new meaning after living in lockdown due to a pandemic, and I have to say so far I agree. The disillusioned outlook Masha, Nina, and Konstantin have on life is oddly relatable to how I as a young person in contemporary society feel. The ending... I didn’t see it coming. It’s a tragedy for sure, but I guess Chekhov would say life itself is a tragedy? Enjoyed the irony too. All in all, I enjoyed the old Russian melodrama that seems so relevant despite the difference in time period and location.

re-read! honestly this play haunts me... as I grow I can see myself in wayy too many of the characters. excellent scenes too!
