Field Guide to the Haunted Forest by Jarod K. Anderson

2.0

I don't follow the Cryptonaturalist online anywhere, but I'd seen a few tantalizing links to the best of his poems. A couple of those showed up in this chapbook, and one or two more were new to me and also wonderful, but some of his work that I'd seen online and loved did Not show up in this collection, and it felt weaker for it.
The collection is short and sweet, but with about the amount of depth in the majority of the poems that you'd see in a romantic teenager's poetry: very little real life experience, just a clear longing for it. I'll absolutely not say any of it is *bad* poetry, but based on the beauty of his poem about vultures as holy creatures, (which is missing from this collection,) I certainly had much higher hopes going in.
