Misery by Stephen King

4.0

My second Stephen King book and I’m discovering that he writes exactly what I like. Both this and The Long Walk take place primarily in one location, relying on the characters and their dialogue to move the story along, and I LOVE that kind of story. Things are revealed naturally and you never know what will happen next because there is no stereotypical next step.

The pages about how people get overly attached to fictional people got to me because when Paul “burned Misery’s Return” I did feel sad about the loss, I really did. And when it was revealed that he actually saved the full manuscript, I felt relieved. It was weird to see my own emotions reflected in a book in this way.

I have no real complaints about this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it didn’t really blow me away, so 4 stars it is for now.
