Yikes. I had to check the publication date on this because I could have SWORN it was in the 90s. The MC referring to even the implication that she could engage in sex work as “selling her soul to the devil” and “tarnishing her soul?” Yikes. A character being disgusted when another character implies she might be gay? Yikes. A character with a “hooked nose” who cares about nothing but money? Antisemitism trope, YIKES. Possible they were all unintentional but whew. Do better.
