A reluctant prince. A runaway queen. And a quest that may destroy them both.

I was so happy to return to the world of Holly Black's fae. This book does not feature Jude and Cardan other than by name and is more of a quest fantasy than political intrigue, but I loved it just as much as I love The Folk of the Air trilogy.

The novel takes place 8 years after the ending of The Queen of Nothing. This novel follows Suren's POV as she is found living ferally in the mortal lands by Oak and he asks her to accompany hum on a quest to take down Suren's mother Lady Nore of the Queen of Teeth. I really enjoyed Suren's POV throughout the book. I frequently found myself wishing that I could just pull her out of the pages and give her a hug. (She'd probably attack me for trying, but it wouldn't stop me.) Additionally, I enjoyed seeing Oak as a young adult. I found myself charmed with parts of his personality and while I would get hints of "he reminds me a little of X Y or Z", he really has grown into his own person. The added side characters on the quest were also a delight to get to know, and I'm excited to spend more time with all these characters in the sequel.

Holly Black's writing and rich workd had me fully captivated and longing to re-read the folk of the air trilogy.
