This book, oh my god.
I loved "Oceans That Swim", but this one? I CRIED. It was such an emotional ride, difficult and tough, but still packed with the same humour and light-heartedness of the first book, the same all-consuming love and affection and care each one of these characters have for one another. I already adored Troy in the first book, so I knew I was going to love him even more with the spotlight finally turned on him; what I wasn't expecting was having my heart and soul completely destroyed. I'd literally die for him: he's an a**hole, snarky and bratty and a tad irresponsible and quick to anger, but also sensitive and sweet and soft and ugh, he needed someone to protect him so badly. And that's were Kaide comes in: he's Troy's perfect counterpart, his literal soulmate. He manages to protect him with all of his heart and body and to shield him from everything life's thrown at poor Troy, without stifling him, always respectful of his boundaries. I adored him, I adored his protective, sexy as hell, side and his more vulnerable, insecure one too. Their relationship was literally EVERYTHING, with every single trope I love (second chance? Opposites attract? Hurt/comfort? Uber-protective-MC needs to keep disaster-prickly-MC safe because of *reasons*? CHECK, check, check, check) packed into it, but with an added bonus of "my heart hurts and my soul is being crushed by feels". I loved them with my whole heart and they loved each other so much it made me cry.
The plot was interesting, with the usual mix of action and mystery, secrets and kitesurfing shenanigans. I wasn't the biggest fan of some of things that happened, mainly by the end, (especially in regards to a certain evil individual who will not be named, and how they were dealt with) but I'm so damn curious to see what will happen next, after all *that* mess. And that cliffhanger, oh my god.
As usual, the King brothers relationship was one of my favourite things of the whole story: I love them all so much and the whole found family vibe they had going on, and I cannot wait to finally read Travis' (and the mysterious Luca's) story.
Thank you GRR for the ARC. I received it in exchange for an honest review.
