Ivanhoe by Walter Scott

4.0

I first read this in 5th grade (why, yes, I was a huge dork, thank you very much. still am) and I think I enjoy wondering what I understood of this book at that age almost as much as I enjoy reading it for itself.
It's a fun book with knights, and Robin Hood, and beautiful damsels in distress, and King Richard the Lion heart. It also is noted for containing (at the time) a sympathetic Jewish character during a time that new laws protecting Jewish rights were being debated in England. While the character in question is certainly favorably portrayed, the awful stereotypical treatment of Isaac will do much to eliminate the sympathies of the modern reader.
The history is awful, but overall the book is meant to be fun, and it remains so today. Definitely a must read for die hard Saga of Ice & Fire fans.
