This book is so delightful to read, serving a new magic system as the story background. The plot is easy to follow even though this book isn't labeled as YA. Having Elspeth and Ravyn as our main character is another enjoyable part of this book. I like their dynamic bond which is getting stronger as the secrets unravel and with so many obstacles and challenges they faced; they have remained resilient. I really appreciate how the writer creates her character, she is brave, smart, and vulnerable at the same time even though she just 20. And Nightmare, he is silly and other time creepy. When he had a conversation with Elspeth, my brain felt tingling as if I could see him slipping through my mind.

As for debut duology, this book is promising. From the fantasy world, mystery to the character diversity and development, it's convincing and still comparable.

But I hesitated to read the second book because I already know who will be leading the story ahead. Although, I want to know the secrets lying behind the woods, I keep my excitement low.
