How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

Did not finish book. Stopped at 17%.
i was sooo excited for this book, hoping that itโ€™d be my new favourite of 2023, but oh boy was i wrong. instead, itโ€™s my first dnf of the year.

๐™–๐™—๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™–๐™˜๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง๐™จโ€ฆ i didnโ€™t connect with any of them in this book. i didnโ€™t find them at all relatable or even likable. i also love a good dialogue and this book didnโ€™t provide that, either. Mark was by far my least favourite character and he was one of the main reasons why i decided to stop reading this. his character was so annoying, so frustrating, that, when i thought about continuing with the book and knowing that he was a huge part of it, i was like nah, i canโ€™t deal with it, iโ€™m done.

๐™–๐™—๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ฎ๐™ก๐™šโ€ฆ it wasnโ€™t for my taste at all. it felt detailed, sometimes talking about unnecessary things i couldnโ€™t give two shits about. i couldnโ€™t connect to it even if i tried my best. it wasnโ€™t atmospheric nor gripping to me.

๐™–๐™—๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™ค๐™ฉโ€ฆ this book started achingly slow. i felt like i was reading it for weeks and i only got up to page 76 before i absolutely gave up on it. i felt myself drifting into the reading slump, so i decided it was enough. in 76 pages nothing at all thrilling happened except some useless bickering between the two characters. i ainโ€™t got time for that. i want a fast paced, action packed novel to keep me interested.

iโ€™d probably recommend this to someone who loves a slow-burn or who can relate to a complicated sibling relationship (even though it was done poorly in this book from what iโ€™ve seen), but unfortunately it wasnโ€™t for me.
