As always, Blume beautifully captures the lives of people & eras using historical events as a central focus. In this case it is the series of plane crashes in Elizabeth, New Jersey in the early 1950s, when the main character is a young woman navigating adolescence along with the complications & mysteries of family relationships. Blume develops even the smallest side stories into points of meaningful connection, adding to the richness of the story.
Graphic: Child death, Death, Grief, and Injury/Injury detail
