The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali

emotional hopeful tense medium-paced

5.0

This was an engaging coming of age story about friendship in Tehran in the 1950s-60s and beyond.  I loved following Ellie and Homa and their friendship through the backdrop of Iran before, during, and after the revolution. I love historical fiction when it brings that period to life through the lives of the characters we're reading about and this book does exactly that. I did think that the ending was wrapped up a little too neatly but it wasn't enough to take away how much the book moved me overall. The audiobook narration was also excellent. I hadn't read The Stationery Shop yet but now I definitely want to read it now.
