Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

4.0

I am very surprised by this one. The pacing was MUCH better in this book than in any of the others in this series. I felt like there was constantly something to focus on. It went from one thing to another in a way that made sense. The thing I hated most about her books before, was that there were 500 pages of filler and then everything happened all at once in the last 100 pages. This book also did a lot of recon with the characters for me. They actually are starting to have personalities other than "the best" or "pretty" or whatever other generic things they could be. There also seems to be an actual plot now. It doesn't feel so limited this time around. It was actually a good length in comparison to what was happening and even though there were things that could have been explained better, such as certain characters motives or feelings towards other characters (Aedion felt more like he was in love with Aelin - his cousin - rather than just having family love for her), it was still a fun read for me.
