I started "The Billionaire Bargain" right after finishing a novella collection by this author, in hopes of finding what I was missing there...more plot and character development.
Sadly, although the pacing and humor is just as good, what I was looking for wasn't in the pages of this book.
We follow Lacey- a hard working assistant at a billion dollar company...that I still don't know what exactly is doing..>..>...moving on... and Grant - heir to the empire - a spoiled brat who cannot seem to understand the gravity of his actions.
Due to an outburst of our MC, Grant takes an interest in her and traps her into a fake dating situation for the benefit of the company.
For the most part, I liked how in your face Lacey is, but some funny moments felt a bit forced. Also, Grant interest is not really earned in my opinion...I don't think this was the first time someone told him off for his behavior...>...>.. They both missinterpret what the other wants from this partnership and that could lead to great twists, but I feel Lila Monroe won't focus on that. Every time we have some flash of deeper meaning in Grant's words/action...we are launched into a silly exchange as a cover up OR we get sexy times...-_- Don't get me wrong...I have no problem with sexy times been the main focus of a story..I don't prefer it, but it's not something offensive to me. However, these two have no chemistry :(...It's Lacey getting worked up over how hot Grant is, and him doing stuff for whatever reason for someone who normally wouldn't even be on his radar....I JUST WANT A REASON FOR HIS ACTIONS!>..<
Anyway, something that really took me out of the story was the BIG PROPOSAL...how on earth do these people accept such low level explanations..and such cheesy dialog....?...what's happening here???? It's like Monroe let someone else write for a while. And don't get me started on the "curvy" representation...I''m sorry but the author did nothing with this...most of the time...it's a plot point for either bullying and/or selfhate...not a fan....especially when I bet thta by "curvy" she means..just as thin but more beautifull..>..>...not a fan.
In conclusion, I don't think I will read further in the series. It's not for me.
If you like billionaire romances with good humor and insta attraction...this might possibly be for you, but if you don't....I think you should stay away.
