Odour of Chrysanthemums by D.H. Lawrence
5.0
Another favourite of mine among short stories. Though the story is quite depressing (beginning, middle and end), the author has a brilliant way of breaking apart marriage to get at the real questions. A beautiful story, despite the fact that everyone within seems to have terrible lives, and really thought-provoking.
Unless you've been in a similar situation with your spouse, I didn't find the mood of the story to hit me hard, besides sympathising with the wife for all her loss.
